Getting Started as the Group Leader

Group leaders are the choir masters, orchestra or band leaders. If you are using Chorister for solo performances, you will be the leader of a one-person group with yourself as the only member.

Complete your profile

Click on the profile icon in the upper left corner to edit your account profile

Here you can change your name, email address, and password.

If you plan on performing in addition to leading the group, tag your vocal ranges / instruments. This helps when automatically assigning members to parts of a piece.

Create your Group

Choose Switch Group page from the top menu and click the + New button.

Enter the name of your group, and set up the date, interval, and location of your regular rehearsals. This will fill in those details automatically when planning upcoming rehearsals.

You can allow members to assign themselves to their parts in each Performance, which reduces the workload on the leadership when creating new Performances, e. g. if you have a large number of people in the group.

After saving, it's time to onboard your members to Chorister.

Invite your members

Because Chorister relies on regular input from your members, everyone needs to set up their own Chorister account and link it your group.

From your newly created group, click the Manage members button. From here, you have two options to provide Chorister accounts for each of your members.

Membership requests

The most straightforward way is to share the QR code or the registration link, and share it with your members. When they follow the link, they will be guided through the Chorister registration process, and a membership request will be showing on your home page. Click Accept to confirm the request.

Invitations

The second option is to send an invitation to a known email address. Press the + Invite button, enter the member's email, and click Send. They will receive instructions to create their Chorister account, and see that you have invited them to your group. Once they accept the invitation, they will show up in your member list.

Creating Pieces

To create a Piece, go to Repertoire from the main menu and press + New.

Add all parts depending on the arrangement you are using, and give each part a name and a range.

Piece form

Multiple parts can have the same vocal range, for example in an SSAATTBB arrangement, you would create two parts with the "Bass" range, named "Lower Bass" and "Upper Bass".

You can upload sheet music in PDF format, and audio files either to the piece, or to specific parts, e. g. soloed recordings for learning a part.

Create Performances and assign members

In Chorister, a Performance combines one of your Pieces with the assignments of your group members to the piece's different parts.

From your Group home page, navigate to Performances and click the + New button. You can also create a Performance directly from a Piece overview.

New performance

Choose the Piece for the Performance and press Save. When you enable the option, Chorister will create default assignments for all group members based on the vocal ranges set up in their profiles.

On the following page, you can modify the assignments by dragging and dropping member avatars between the member list on the bottom and the parts of the Piece.

Note

You can assign a member to multiple parts — e. g. when they are learning two parts that are performed sequentially — by dragging the same member from the member list on the bottom to each part.

Create Concerts

Concerts in Chorister are performances of a number of pieces on a given date. These are mostly actual concerts, but could also be used for recording sessions, or any other occasion with a deadline — even as internal milestones.

From your Group home page, navigate to Concerts and click the + New button.

New concert

Enter a name, date and time, and create your set list by adding from your Performances on the bottom of the form. You can rearrange the order of the set list by dragging Performances.

The current progress level is shown next to each Performance, giving you an indication of whether a piece is ready for performance.

Plan Rehearsals

You can plan the next regular rehearsal from the home page, or navigate to Rehearsals and click the + New button to create additional rehearsals.

Set a date and location, and pick from the suggested Performances to add to the rehearsal's focus. Click the More.. button to show all other Performances.

Rehearsal form

The auto-curriculum feature will suggest Performances to focus on based on their current level of confidence, the learning trend, indicated by up or down arrows next to the percentage, and the projected date by which the Performance is ready.

Progress indicator

A warning sign is displayed whenever the projected completion date lies beyond a planned Concert date with this Performance on the set list.

Your home page

Your home view as the group leader shows you the upcoming rehearsals and list of concerts, with progress levels and trends next to them.
